Frequently asked questions.
What is applied behavior analysis?
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the study of human behavior that is based peer-reviewed evidence based science. In ABA we strive to understand how behavior works, how behavior is effected by the environment and how learning takes place. With the understanding of how behavior works it is then applied to real life situations with the goal to increase meaningful behaviors and decrease undesired behaviors.
How can ABA be applied to running?
The best part and I think the coolest part about ABA is that it can be applied to every aspect of our lives. So how does ABA apply to running, well running is a human behavior that can be broken down into many different areas. ABA can help increase pace or decrease pace for easy runs, running with correct form, help you get up and out for your runs, understand why you skipped a run, figure out why you get out for your runs and so much more. The way ABA helps is by understanding what areas need help such as getting up in the mornings to run by creating a plan to help best support getting up early for a morning run. This is done by, doing things before your run that will make the effort to go out for your run in the morning easier. That is just one simple example as to how ABA can be applied to running.
What makes Precision Running Strategies different from other running coach services?
Precision Running Strategies looks at running as a whole and not just the act of running through not only a coaches eyes but a BCBA’s eyes. Meaning that when coaching I am going to look at everything that you do before your run, during your run and after your run to understand why you run, why you had a good, ok or bad run, why you didn’t run and other achievements and barriers in your running journey. By looking at running this way my intention is to allow my athletes to reach their goals and create lasting positive changes in their lives.
